Julius of Even Grounds Speaks at the Wellington Usability Lunch
Julius Charles Serrano, research director and accessibility consultant at Even Grounds, was the guest speaker at the recently concluded Usability Lunch in Wellington. This event was held on August 18, 2010 at Provoke Solutions in Wellington, New Zealand.
The Usability Lunch is a semi-regular event where professionals working in the field of usability. Common topics include usability-related research, issues, problems, and technologies.
About Julius’ Presentation
Julius’ presentation was divided into two parts. First, he discussed the relationship between usability and accessibility. Julius explained how features such as descriptive link text, understandable content, and properly marked up headings all contribute to the usability and accessibility of web sites.
After the discussion, Julius provided a demonstration of how a blind person uses a screen reader to access web sites. The group provided suggestions for New Zealand web sites, which Julius accessed during the demonstration. These included web sites for New Zealand banks and location data services.
The lunch concluded with a lively discussion of usability and accessibility issues found through Julius’ demonstration. Julius is thankful to the usability group for allowing him to speak in the meeting.
