CENTRALIA — When three members of the fledgling Centralia Accessibility Committee toured the business district to study accessibility issues in the summer,
members John Hinten, Jeannette Skirvin and Steve Oberman appeared united. That was then.

An ongoing power struggle among some committee members threatens to take the focus off their efforts to raise awareness of accessibility issues for people
with disabilities in this town. And when Hinten, the committee’s co-founder, filed a disability discrimination complaint with the Missouri Commission on
Human Rights against Mayor Tim Grenke, the committee told Hinten he would not be welcome at meetings until his complaint is resolved.

The human rights panel is investigating Hinten’s complaint and added Centralia to its inquiry.
