President Obama Keeps Another Promise for People with Disabilities

Submitted by Tom on Mon, 10/05/2009 - 19:54
  • President Barack Obama

Earlier this year I wrote about President Obama's plans for people with disabilities. Today he announced another major step fulfilling his promise.

In July, to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, President Obama committed to sign the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which he promised during his campaign.

One of his four major things to achieve in his campaign for people with disabilities was to increase employment rate. Today he announced the development of a plan to increase opportunities for people with disabilities, with the Federal Government to lead the way.

The plans include a day long government-wide job fair for people disabilities, which will take place in early 2010. In addition, he announced the development of training materials for employers, organize information sessions about the amendments of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and showcase model employment practices in the government.

Thank you Mr. President!
