A Nice CAPTCHA Solution
It has been a heated debate how to make sure that only humans can register on web pages, without permitting automated systems to do the same. A solution, called CAPTCHA was developed, but often times it is not accessible. If you are not familiar with this problem, read my article about it. There are many great solutions, I just came across one which I would like to share.
One of the problems tends to be that in order to promote accessibility, an alternative for the image is to provide an audio file which reads the content of the image. Unfortunately, automated voice recognition systems can easily get around it. People come up with all kinds of different tricks to confuse these systems. The one I found is on the G3ICT web site, where the characters are read out clearly, which helps people with learning disabilities. However, while a female voice reads the characters, a male voice says the word "and" between the characters, and before the last one it says "and finally". I would like to see what would an automated system try to do when expecting only a series of characters.
Give it a try, register on the G3ICT site, and in the meantime look around, it is a site worth visiting anyway.
