The First Web Accessibility Workshop in Sabah, Malaysia
We have just finished conducting the first web accessibility workshop in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. This is the third web accessibility workshop Even Grounds has conducted in the country. It was a very good experience for us, and we are hoping that more individuals in Malaysia are now aware of the importance of web accessibility.
According to one of the main organizers of this workshop, more than 95% of Malaysian websites are inaccessible. It is therefore very important to create awareness of web accessibility among developers and policy makers in the country. We hope that through workshops like this, more people would recognize the value of accessible websites and support their development.
There were more than 30 people who attended the workshop. The attendees consisted of web developers, IT heads, and professionals interested in web accessibility. The participants were very enthusiastic and interested in the topics presented. Most of them were asking good questions and providing unique and sensible opinions. Some were even willing to have their sites evaluated by us and the other participants during the actual workshop.
Even Grounds would like to express gratitude to the organizers of this event for inviting us and letting us share our knowledge with the attendees. We sincerely thank the Sabah State Department of Computer Services, the Sabah Society for the Blind, the National Council for the Blind, Malaysia, and the other groups who have contributed to the success of the workshop.
We are looking forward to working with everyone from the workshop in future accessibility-related events. We also kindly offer our help to the participants and the organizers, should they need any assistance concerning web accessibility.
