Encontro Internacional de Tecnologia: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Greetings from Brazil. I'm currently attending the Encontro Internacional de Tecnologia conference. This conference explores how to obtain and promote assistive technology in Brazil. I was invited to speak about assistive technologies, where I discussed the relation of assistive technologies and accessible mainstream technologies.

As I haven't used Portuguese for the last ten years, I have a lot to catch up with and remember, but I'm at least getting by. Some people speak English, and those who do not, are very patient for the sake of a good conversation.

Besides three days of panel sessions, there is an exhibition which showcases a number of interesting technologies for people with disabilities.

In Brazil, much of the assistive technologies which are familiar in other countries have a hard time making it, mostly due to the very high imposed taxes. While I have seen some products which were familiar from the U.S., there are a bunch of great innovations.

For the time being, I'm learning all about it, but stay tuned, I will discuss some interesting items after I get back to the U.S.
