Blogging Against Disablism Day, May 1st 2010
Last year I have participated in the Blogging Against Disablism Day. It is a day on May 1st, when bloggers blog about their thoughts on disability discrimination. This year, I will participate again.

I have heard about it for the first time last year, and I really enjoyed reading over hundred great articles. So far, there are over 50 people who indicated their participation.

Join the club either by reading what others have to say, or write a post as well.

Hi Tom,
I just popped over to "Diary of a Goldfish" to get more information about the "Blogging Against Disablism Day". Here's what I found:

3. Write a post on the subject of disability discrimination, disablism or ableism and publish it on May 1st - or as close as you are able. Podcasts, videocasts and on-line art are also welcome. You can cover any subject, specific or general, personal, social or political. In the previous three BADD, folks have written about all manner of subjects, from discrimination in education and employment, through health care, parenting, family life and relationships, as well as the interaction of disablism with racism and sexism. Every year I have been asked, so it's worth saying; the discrimination experienced by people with mental ill health is disablism, so naturally such posts are welcome too.

Plus, they have cool clickable widget buttons that you can display on your site - just like the black and white one you have above.

May 1st is this upcoming Saturday!! Get busy writing, people! And don't forget to tweet this post!

Blogging Against Disablism Day

Thank you for encouraging spreading the word.
Last year this initiative brought together hundreds of advocates who wrote great articles, provided great support to each other, got to know one another, and I can imagine the number of people who viewed these articles altogether. So far I got over 1000 views on what I posted, and at that point this blog was brand new.

Bloggin against disablism

I like the idea but I really don't know what might be constructive. I take it that the idea is to promote an environment that is as open as possible to people with disabilities- whatever those might be. I would like to know more about how this relates to blogging. At the moment I don't know what I should do to make my blog more open. I assume that by coming here I can learn some of those things and implement them. If I do that it would feel very good to blog about that on May 1. If so I need to get busy. Do you have a guidepost to start with?

Ralf,
I would recommend reading the archives from last year. You will see hundreds of posts, from many different approaches.
