Accessibility Camp DC

Submitted by Tom on Sat, 10/10/2009 - 22:38

Recently I have been to so many conferences thinking that it wasn't worth going that the Accessibility Camp DC was really refreshing. It was a one day event in Washington DC, and hopefully it is the first of its kind.

The event was organized within the BarCamp framework. But let me get through the most difficult part first, thanking all who put it together. The main organizer was John Croston, and the host was the Martin Luther King Library. And why is it difficult? Because I must have forgotten so many people. Please check the event site for details.

The conference started out with an introduction, and while there were some pre-scheduled speeches, people could make any suggestions for speeches, presentations and discussions and they were included on the schedule. Throughout the whole day, two or three events were going on simultaneously.

The conference had something to offer on all levels. From those who never heard of accessibility with introductory presentations, to those who attend all possible related conferences to get another chance to get together, discuss recent issues and take part in educating the beginners.

I tried my best to tweet the events I attended, just like many other people. To get an idea of what it was all about in detail, follow the #accesscampdc tag on Twitter.

It was a brand new, out of the box way of looking at accessibility, I'm looking forward to the next one.
